Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in the performing arts (now known as Maureen O'Hara), would be considered, at least in the eyes of America, into the category of child prodigy. However, for an Irish girl who was surrounded by gifted parents and extended family these characteristics were a normal. Maureen was born in this cosy haven, August 17, 1920. Her family was the family of her parents. Marguerita FitzSimons was an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin company, and also held shares of the Irish soccer team Shamrock Rovers. Maureen FitzSimons is the 2nd daughter from Charles FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons, Florrie Fitzsimons Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons completed the wonderful family. Maureen excelled at sports and loved rough games. Her natural ability to perform was the perfect match for her passion for athletics. The fact that she was awarded nearly every Feis prizes for her own nation's theatre and drama was a testament to this. When she turned 14, she was accepted by the Abbey Theater accepted her and permitted her to pursue her dream in classical theater and opera singing.
